Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the doughIn a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk, then add melted butter and egg. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
-
Knead the doughTurn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Prepare the fillingWhile the dough is rising, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom (if using) in a small bowl. Set aside.
-
Shape the bunsPunch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 16x12 inches. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
-
Roll and cutStarting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls cut-side up in a greased baking dish or on a baking sheet, leaving space between each roll.
-
Second riseCover the rolls with a damp cloth and let rise for another 30 minutes until puffy. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Bake the bunsBake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly while preparing the glaze.
-
Glaze and serveWhisk together confectioners' sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the warm cinnamon buns and serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
