Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients
Gather all your toppings and make sure they are properly drained if using canned or jarred ingredients. Arrange them in separate bowls for easy assembly.
  2. Assemble the base
In each serving glass, add 1-2 tablespoons each of sweetened red beans, sweet white beans, nata de coco, macapuno strips, jackfruit, and sago pearls.
  3. Add the shaved ice
Fill each glass with shaved ice, packing it down gently until it forms a dome above the rim of the glass.
  4. Pour the milk
Drizzle about 1/4 cup of evaporated milk or coconut milk over the ice in each glass, allowing it to seep down through the ice and ingredients.
  5. Add the sweet toppings
Top each glass with a tablespoon of ube halaya jam, a few slices of sweetened banana, and some kaong. Make sure to distribute them around the ice.
  6. Crown with ice cream and flan
Place a scoop of ube or vanilla ice cream on top of each glass, then add a slice of leche flan beside it.
  7. Finish with pinipig
Sprinkle a tablespoon of toasted rice flakes (pinipig) over each serving for added texture and crunch.
  8. Serve immediately
Provide long spoons and straws so guests can mix all the ingredients together before eating. The name 'halo-halo' means 'mix-mix' in Filipino, so encourage thorough mixing for the best experience.
