Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan
Tender asparagus spears with nutty parmesan and lemon zest
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the asparagusWash the asparagus thoroughly and snap off the woody ends. Pat dry with paper towels. For thicker asparagus, consider peeling the bottom third for more even cooking.
-
Season the asparagusPlace asparagus in a large shallow dish. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss gently to coat all spears evenly. Let marinate for 5 minutes to absorb flavors.
-
Preheat the grillHeat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat (about 400°F/205°C). Make sure the grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.
-
Grill the asparagusArrange asparagus perpendicular to the grill grates to prevent falling through. Grill for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender-crisp with light char marks. Thinner spears will cook faster than thicker ones, so adjust timing accordingly.
-
Add the cheese and garnishesTransfer grilled asparagus to a serving platter. While still hot, sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan cheese, allowing it to slightly melt. Add lemon zest, fresh thyme leaves, and red pepper flakes if using.
-
ServeDrizzle with balsamic glaze if desired and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side. Asparagus is best enjoyed hot or at room temperature when the cheese is still slightly melted.
