Instructions

  1. Brew the chai tea
Place the chai tea bag or loose tea in a mug and pour hot water over it. Let steep for 3-5 minutes until strong, then remove the tea bag or strain the loose tea.
  2. Prepare the espresso
While the tea is steeping, brew a fresh shot of espresso using an espresso machine or a moka pot. If you don't have either, use 2 tablespoons of very strong brewed coffee as a substitute.
  3. Heat and froth the milk
In a small saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat until steaming but not boiling. If you have a milk frother, use it to create a light foam. Alternatively, whisk vigorously to create some froth.
  4. Combine and sweeten
Add the honey or maple syrup, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger to the brewed chai tea and stir to dissolve. Pour in the espresso shot and stir again to combine.
  5. Add the frothed milk
Slowly pour the warmed, frothed milk into the chai-espresso mixture, holding back the foam with a spoon. Then spoon the foam on top of the drink.
  6. Garnish and serve
Top with whipped cream if desired, and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy!
