Classic German street food with spiced curry ketchup sauce
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the sausagesCook the bratwurst sausages according to package instructions. You can grill, pan-fry, or boil them until they reach an internal temperature of 71°C (160°F). Once cooked, set aside.
-
Make the curry sauce baseHeat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Create the curry ketchupAdd the tomato ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, curry powder, smoked paprika, honey, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens slightly and flavors meld together.
-
Blend the sauceFor a smooth sauce, carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and pulse until smooth (optional), or use an immersion blender directly in the pan. If you prefer a chunkier texture, you can skip this step. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Slice and serveSlice the cooked sausages into 1cm thick pieces. Place them on serving plates or in paper trays for an authentic street food experience. Pour the warm curry sauce generously over the sliced sausages.
-
Add final touchesSprinkle additional curry powder on top of the sauced sausages for extra flavor and visual appeal. Serve immediately with french fries or crispy fried potatoes on the side, if desired. Provide small forks or toothpicks for eating.
