Cranberry Apple Punch
A festive, sweet-tart beverage perfect for holiday gatherings
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Combine the juicesIn a large pot or Dutch oven, combine the cranberry juice, apple cider, and orange juice. Stir to mix well.
-
Add sweetener and spicesAdd the sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise to the juice mixture. Stir until the sugar begins to dissolve.
-
Simmer and infuseHeat the mixture over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 15 minutes to allow the spices to infuse the punch with flavor. Do not boil vigorously as this can cause the juice to reduce too much.
-
Add fruitAdd the orange slices, apple slices, and fresh cranberries to the punch. Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
-
Adjust sweetnessTaste the punch and add more sugar if desired. Remember that as the punch cools, the sweetness will be less pronounced, so you may want it slightly sweeter than you think necessary.
-
Strain and serveRemove from heat and allow to cool slightly. For a smoother punch, strain out the spices and fruit pieces using a fine mesh strainer. For a more rustic presentation, leave some of the fruit pieces in. Serve warm in heat-resistant mugs or cups.
-
Chill for cold serviceIf you prefer a cold punch, cool completely and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. When ready to serve, add sparkling water if desired for a fizzy version, and serve over ice with additional fresh fruit garnish.
