-
Prepare the apple fillingIn a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with bourbon, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
-
Make the crumble toppingIn a medium bowl, mix together the rolled oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Add the cold cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Assemble and bakeSpread the crumble topping evenly over the apple mixture. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
-
Serve the crispRemove from the oven and let cool for about 15 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to set slightly. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
