Instructions

  1. Prepare the glasses
Choose small, clear glass cups or tumblers that allow you to see the distinct layers. Warm the glasses by rinsing them with hot water and drying thoroughly.
  2. Add the condensed milk
Pour 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into each glass. The milk should fill approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the glass.
  3. Prepare the espresso
Brew 2 shots of strong espresso coffee for each serving. If using an espresso machine, ensure the coffee is freshly ground for optimal flavor. If you don't have an espresso machine, use a moka pot or make very strong coffee with a French press.
  4. Create the layered effect
Slowly pour the hot espresso over the back of a teaspoon into each glass, allowing it to gently layer on top of the condensed milk. This technique creates the distinct separation between the dark coffee and white milk layers that is characteristic of Café Bombón.
  5. Serve and enjoy
Serve immediately while still hot. Traditionally, the drink is presented with the two distinct layers visible and stirred by the drinker just before consumption. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder if desired.
  6. Optional variations
For a summer version (Café Bombón del Tiempo), allow the espresso to cool slightly before pouring, then add ice cubes. For extra flavor, add a cinnamon stick to each glass or dust with cocoa powder before serving.
