Instructions

  1. Sift the matcha
Using a fine-mesh strainer, sift the matcha powder into a small bowl to remove any clumps for a smoother consistency.
  2. Create matcha paste
Add hot (not boiling) water to the sifted matcha. Using a bamboo whisk or small electric frother, whisk in a zigzag motion until the mixture becomes a smooth paste with no lumps.
  3. Add sweetener
If using, add honey or maple syrup to the matcha paste and mix thoroughly until dissolved. Add vanilla extract if desired.
  4. Prepare serving glass
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, leaving enough room for the milk and matcha mixture.
  5. Combine and serve
Pour the cold milk into the glass with ice, then slowly pour the matcha mixture over the top. Gently stir to create a beautiful gradient effect or stir completely for a uniform color. Dust with additional matcha powder if desired.
