Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter mixture
In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, honey, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Cream together until smooth and well incorporated. This can be done with a fork or electric mixer.
  2. Boil the water
Bring water to a boil in a kettle or small saucepan. Once boiling, remove from heat and let stand for about 30 seconds to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare the mugs
Divide the butter mixture evenly among 4 heat-resistant mugs, placing about 1 tablespoon of the mixture in each mug. Add 2 ounces of dark rum to each mug.
  4. Combine and serve
Pour about 3/4 cup of hot water into each mug. Stir well until the butter mixture dissolves completely. Garnish each drink with a cinnamon stick. Serve immediately while hot.
  5. Make ahead option
For convenience, you can make a larger batch of the butter mixture and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Simply scoop out a tablespoon whenever you want to make a single serving.
