Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the Hamburg mixtureIn a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, half of the chopped onion, garlic, egg, panko breadcrumbs, milk, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands until the mixture becomes sticky and well combined. Cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
-
Form the pattiesDivide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into an oval patty about 1-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.
-
Cook the Hamburg steaksHeat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and cover to keep warm.
-
Start the curry sauceIn the same skillet, add the remaining oil and sauté the remaining onion until translucent. Add the carrots and potatoes, and cook for about 3-4 minutes until slightly softened.
-
Prepare the curryAdd water or beef stock to the skillet and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Break the curry roux into pieces and add to the skillet. Stir until completely dissolved and the sauce has thickened. Add the remaining tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce.
-
Combine and simmerReturn the Hamburg steaks to the skillet, spooning some of the curry sauce over them. Simmer for another 5 minutes on low heat to allow the flavors to meld together.
-
ServePlace a portion of cooked Japanese rice on one side of a plate and place a Hamburg steak on the other side. Pour curry sauce over both the rice and Hamburg steak. Serve hot.
