Grilled Tofu Steaks
Savory marinated tofu with a delicious char-grilled finish
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the tofuCut the pressed tofu block into 4 equal slices, approximately 3/4-inch thick. Place the slices on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.
-
Make the marinadeIn a shallow dish, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, smoked paprika, and black pepper until well combined.
-
Marinate the tofuPlace the tofu slices in the marinade, ensuring they're evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes, or up to 24 hours for maximum flavor. Turn the slices occasionally to ensure even marination.
-
Preheat the grillPreheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 400°F/200°C). If using a grill pan, heat it over medium-high heat. Brush the grill grates or pan with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
-
Grill the tofu steaksRemove the tofu from the marinade, reserving the excess liquid. Brush the tofu slices with the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Place the tofu on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until you see nice grill marks and the tofu is heated through.
-
Baste while grillingWhile grilling, brush the tofu occasionally with the reserved marinade to add more flavor and keep the steaks moist.
-
ServeTransfer the grilled tofu steaks to serving plates. Drizzle with any remaining marinade that wasn't used for basting. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
