Grilled Plums with Miso and Star Anise
Sweet-savory caramelized plums with exotic Asian flavors
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the miso glazeIn a small bowl, whisk together the miso paste, honey, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and vegetable oil until smooth and well combined. This creates the sweet-savory glaze that will caramelize beautifully on the plums.
-
Infuse the glazeIn a small saucepan, gently heat the miso glaze mixture with the star anise and sliced ginger over low heat for about 3 minutes. Don't allow it to boil, just warm enough to infuse the flavors. Remove from heat and let steep for 5 minutes, then strain out the star anise and ginger.
-
Prepare the plumsPreheat your grill to medium-high heat or use a grill pan on the stove. Lightly brush the cut sides of the plums with a little vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
-
Grill the plumsPlace the plums cut-side down on the grill. Cook for about 3 minutes until grill marks appear and the plums begin to soften slightly. Turn the plums over and brush the cut sides generously with the miso glaze.
-
Finish grillingContinue grilling for another 2-3 minutes until the glaze caramelizes and the plums are tender but still hold their shape. Be careful not to overcook or they will become mushy.
-
Serve and garnishTransfer the grilled plums to a serving plate, drizzle with any remaining glaze, and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve warm, either on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt if desired.
