Instructions
-
Prepare the doughIn a large bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and 2 tablespoons olive oil, and beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Increase to medium speed and beat for 2 minutes. Gradually stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
-
Knead and riseTurn dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5-6 minutes. Place in an oiled bowl, turning once to coat. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
-
Prepare garlic butter mixtureWhile the dough is rising, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant but not browned. Remove from heat and stir in half of the Parmesan cheese, parsley, Italian herbs, and garlic powder. Set aside.
-
Shape the breadsticksPreheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Punch down the dough and divide it into 16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 7-inch long rope. Place the breadsticks about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
-
First bakeBrush the breadsticks with half of the garlic butter mixture. Bake for 8 minutes until they start to turn golden.
-
Final bake and garnishRemove from oven, brush with remaining garlic butter and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese. Return to oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 190°F (88°C) when fully baked.
