Instructions

  1. Prepare the cheeses
Take all cheeses out of the refrigerator 1 hour before serving to allow them to reach room temperature. This brings out their optimal flavors and textures. Arrange them on a wooden board or platter, leaving space between each variety.
  2. Slice the accompaniments
Cut the baguette into 1cm thick slices. Arrange in a basket or on one side of the cheese board. Slice the apples and pears thinly, tossing in a little lemon juice to prevent browning if not serving immediately.
  3. Arrange the board
Place the cheeses in a clockwise arrangement from mildest to strongest flavor (typically: Brie, Camembert, Comté, Chèvre, Roquefort). Group the grapes, nuts, and dried fruits in small clusters around the cheeses. Place small dishes of honey and fig jam on the board.
  4. Add the finishing touches
Garnish the board with small sprigs of fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary for color and aroma. Include cheese knives appropriate for each type of cheese - a pointed knife for hard cheese, a spreader for soft varieties.
  5. Serve and enjoy
Serve the cheese plate at room temperature. Explain to guests the traditional way to enjoy the cheese plate: starting with milder cheeses and progressing to stronger flavors, pairing with appropriate accompaniments like fruit, nuts, and honey.
