Instructions

  1. Prepare the board
Select a large wooden board, slate, or platter as your base. If using a wooden board, consider conditioning it with food-safe mineral oil before use. Place small bowls for wet ingredients like honey, mustard, and olives on the board.
  2. Arrange the cheeses
Place the cheeses on different areas of the board. Leave the brie whole with a small wedge cut out, cube or slice the cheddar, and place the blue cheese in chunks. Allow cheeses to come to room temperature 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor.
  3. Add the meats
Arrange the cured meats around the board. Fold or roll prosciutto slices into loose roses, fan out salami slices, and arrange soppressata in an overlapping pattern. Keep meats separate from each other to allow guests to select individual items easily.
  4. Include accompaniments
Fill in spaces with olives, cornichons, and nuts. Add fresh fruits to provide color and palate-cleansing sweetness. Place fruits near complementary cheeses - grapes near blue cheese, apple slices near cheddar.
  5. Add condiments
Fill small bowls with whole grain mustard and honey. Position these near meats and cheeses that pair well with them - mustard near cured meats and honey near brie or blue cheese.
  6. Complete with bread and crackers
Arrange sliced baguette and crackers around the edges of the board or in a separate basket if space is limited. Choose a variety of textures and flavors for the crackers to complement different cheeses.
  7. Garnish and final touches
Add small sprigs of fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for aroma and visual appeal. Fill any remaining spaces on the board so it appears abundant. Provide small cheese knives and serving utensils appropriate for each item.
