Instructions

  1. Prepare the water
In a medium-sized pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of sea salt to the boiling water and stir until dissolved.
  2. Cook the edamame
Add the frozen edamame pods to the boiling salted water. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 5-6 minutes until the beans are tender but still firm. For fresh edamame, cook for only 3-4 minutes.
  3. Drain and season
Drain the edamame in a colander and immediately transfer to a mixing bowl. While still hot, sprinkle with the remaining tablespoon of sea salt and toss to coat evenly. If using the optional seasonings, add the rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic powder at this point and toss well.
  4. Serve and enjoy
Transfer the edamame to a serving bowl, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds if using, and serve immediately while still warm. To eat, place the pod between your teeth and pull to extract the beans, discarding the pods.
