Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking dish
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Set aside both containers of icing from the cinnamon roll packages.
  2. Cut and arrange cinnamon rolls
Open cinnamon roll packages and cut each roll into 6 pieces. Arrange the pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Prepare the custard mixture
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Pour this mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces, making sure all pieces are coated.
  4. Add the topping
In a small bowl, mix together melted butter and brown sugar. Drizzle this mixture over the casserole. If using pecans, sprinkle them evenly on top.
  5. Bake the casserole
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. If the top starts browning too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
  6. Prepare the icing
While the casserole is baking, place the reserved icing containers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften.
  7. Finish and serve
Once the casserole is done, remove from oven and immediately drizzle with the warmed icing. Let it stand for 5 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve with additional maple syrup.
