Soft, sweet steamed buns with creamy coconut filling
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the doughIn a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Gradually add warm milk while stirring. Add softened butter and knead until you have a smooth, elastic dough, about 8-10 minutes. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
-
Make the coconut fillingWhile the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened butter, powdered sugar, milk powder, and shredded coconut until well combined. The mixture should be thick but spreadable. Set aside.
-
Shape the bunsAfter the dough has doubled in size, punch it down to release air bubbles. Divide the dough into 10-12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a 4-inch circle. Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the coconut filling in the center of each circle.
-
Form the bunsBring the edges of the dough up and over the filling, pinching to seal completely. Place the bun seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough. Allow the buns to rise again for 30 minutes until puffy.
-
Prepare for bakingPreheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Gently brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds for decoration and added flavor.
-
Bake the bunsBake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving.
