Instructions

  1. Prepare the cheeses
Remove all cheeses from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before serving to allow them to come to room temperature. This enhances their flavors and textures. Slice or cut the cheeses as needed, keeping soft cheeses like Brie whole with a cheese knife nearby.
  2. Arrange the board
Select a large wooden board, slate, or marble cheese board. Place the cheeses on the board with enough space between them. Arrange them from mildest to strongest in flavor, moving clockwise, to guide your guests through a proper tasting experience.
  3. Add the preserves
Place small bowls or ramekins of the different fruit preserves on the board. Position them near complementary cheeses – fig preserves near blue cheese, apricot preserves near brie, and cherry or raspberry preserves near the goat cheese and cheddar.
  4. Complete the presentation
Fill in the remaining spaces with fresh fruits, nuts, sliced baguette, and crackers. Add a small bowl of honey with a honey dipper. Garnish with a few sprigs of fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme for visual appeal and aromatic enhancement.
  5. Provide serving utensils
Place a different small knife with each cheese, especially important for soft cheeses. Add small spoons for the preserves and honey. Make sure to include cocktail picks or small forks for guests to easily serve themselves.
  6. Label the cheeses (optional)
For a special touch, create small labels for each cheese indicating its name, type, and country of origin. This is especially helpful for guests who may be unfamiliar with some varieties.
