Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass
Choose a clear glass or small espresso cup that will showcase the distinct layers. If using, place the cinnamon stick in the glass as a stirrer.
  2. Add the condensed milk
Pour the sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of the glass. If using brown sugar for extra sweetness, stir it into the condensed milk until dissolved.
  3. Brew the espresso
Prepare a shot of strong espresso using an espresso machine or moka pot. The coffee should be very hot and freshly brewed for best results.
  4. Create the layers
Slowly pour the hot espresso over the back of a teaspoon onto the condensed milk to create distinct layers. The coffee should float on top of the condensed milk, creating a beautiful contrast between the dark coffee and the white milk.
  5. Garnish and serve
If desired, garnish with a dusting of ground cinnamon, chocolate shavings, or a strip of orange zest to enhance the flavor. Serve immediately with the cinnamon stick as a stirrer, allowing the guest to mix the layers according to their preference.
  6. Optional variations
For an iced Café Bombon (Café del Tiempo), allow the espresso to cool slightly, then pour over ice cubes before adding to the condensed milk. Alternatively, you can prepare the drink as usual and then pour over ice.
