Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce
In a small bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, half of the lime juice, and lime zest. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Season with salt to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  2. Season the fish
Coat the tilapia fillets evenly on both sides with blackening seasoning. Press the spices gently into the fish to ensure they adhere well.
  3. Cook the tilapia
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, add the tilapia fillets and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. Transfer to a plate and break into large chunks.
  4. Prepare the slaw
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, red onion, cilantro, and jalapeño (if using). Toss with the remaining lime juice and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Warm the tortillas
Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds per side, or wrap them in damp paper towels and microwave for 30 seconds until warm and pliable.
  6. Assemble the tacos
Spread a spoonful of the lime sauce on each tortilla. Top with blackened tilapia chunks, cabbage slaw, sliced avocado, and additional red onion if desired. Garnish with extra cilantro.
