Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the vegetablesHeat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onions and bell peppers, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Brown the meatAdd the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no pink remains, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary, leaving about 1 tablespoon in the pan for flavor.
-
Add seasoningsStir in the cumin, oregano, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine and toast the spices slightly, about 1 minute.
-
Simmer with tomato saucePour in the tomato sauce and add the bay leaves. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
-
Add olives and raisinsStir in the green olives, raisins, and capers. Continue to simmer for an additional 10 minutes. The raisins will plump up and the sauce will thicken slightly.
-
Final adjustmentsTaste and adjust seasonings as needed. Remove the bay leaves before serving. The final texture should be moist but not soupy.
