Instructions

  1. Prepare the hot dogs
Using a sharp knife, score each hot dog with 3-4 shallow diagonal cuts on each side. This prevents them from bursting while cooking and allows flavors to penetrate better.
  2. Prepare the grill or skillet
Preheat your grill to medium heat or a skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the hot dogs
Place hot dogs on the grill or in the skillet. Cook for 7-8 minutes, turning occasionally until they are heated through and have nice grill marks or browning on all sides.
  4. Toast the buns
During the last minute of cooking the hot dogs, place the buns on the cooler part of the grill or in a separate dry skillet to lightly toast them until they're warm and slightly crisp on the cut sides.
  5. Assemble the hot dogs
Place each cooked hot dog in a toasted bun. Set up a toppings bar with all the condiments and toppings so everyone can customize their hot dog to their preference.
  6. Serve and enjoy
Serve the hot dogs immediately while they're hot, along with your favorite side dishes like potato chips, french fries, coleslaw, or potato salad.
