-
Prepare the baking equipmentPreheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners and set aside.
-
Mix the dry ingredientsIn a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Set aside.
-
Cream butter and sugarIn a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar together on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
-
Add eggs and vanillaAdd the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated. The mixture should be smooth and creamy.
-
Combine wet and dry ingredientsWith the mixer on low speed, add half of the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, followed by the milk, then the remaining dry ingredients. Mix just until combined, being careful not to overmix.
-
Bake the cupcakesDivide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full. Bake for 17-19 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Prepare the vanilla frostingIn a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add more cream if needed to reach desired consistency.
-
Frost and serveOnce the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them using a piping bag with your favorite tip or simply spread the frosting with a knife. Decorate with sprinkles if desired and serve at room temperature.
