Honey Lemon Ginger Tea
A soothing, immune-boosting hot beverage with aromatic spices
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the gingerWash the ginger root thoroughly and slice it thinly. You can leave the skin on for extra flavor, but ensure it's clean. For stronger ginger flavor, you can grate it instead.
-
Boil the waterIn a medium saucepan, bring 3 cups of filtered water to a boil over high heat.
-
Infuse the spicesAdd the sliced ginger, cinnamon stick, cloves, and star anise (if using) to the boiling water. If using turmeric, add it now along with a pinch of black pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
-
Strain the teaRemove the saucepan from heat. Strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve into a teapot or directly into mugs, discarding the ginger slices and spices.
-
Add lemon and honeyWhile the tea is still hot but not boiling (around 160°F or 70°C), stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey. It's important not to add honey to boiling water as it destroys its beneficial enzymes.
-
Serve and garnishPour the tea into mugs and garnish each with a fresh slice of lemon. Serve immediately while hot, or allow to cool slightly for a warm, soothing beverage.
