Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the baking panPreheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch (20cm) square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal.
-
Melt the chocolate and butterIn a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water (don't let the bottom touch the water), melt the dark chocolate and butter together, stirring occasionally until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Mix the wet ingredientsIn a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly pour in the melted chocolate mixture while whisking continuously until glossy and fully incorporated.
-
Add the dry ingredientsSift the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder (if using) into the wet mixture. Fold gently with a rubber spatula until just combined and no dry streaks remain. Be careful not to overmix.
-
Fold in chocolate chipsGently fold in the chocolate chips or chunks, reserving a small handful to sprinkle on top if desired.
-
Bake the browniesPour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with a spatula. If reserved, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
-
Cool and setAllow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. This step is crucial for achieving the perfect fudgy texture. For clean cuts, refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing.
-
Slice and serveUsing the parchment paper overhang, lift the brownies out of the pan. With a sharp knife, cut into 12-16 squares, wiping the knife clean between cuts for neat edges. Serve at room temperature or slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
