Carne Asada
Flavorful marinated grilled beef with lime and cilantro
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Prepare the marinadeIn a large bowl, combine minced garlic, lime juice, orange juice, olive oil, cumin, oregano, chopped cilantro, minced jalapeño, black pepper, and salt. Whisk thoroughly until well combined.
-
Marinate the meatPlace the steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Make sure the meat is completely coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably 4 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
-
Prepare the grillPreheat your grill to high heat (about 450-500°F). Clean and oil the grill grates to prevent sticking. If using a cast-iron skillet instead, heat it over high heat until very hot.
-
Grill the meatRemove the steak from the marinade and pat it dry with paper towels. Discard the used marinade. Place the steak on the hot grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare (internal temperature of 135°F), or until it reaches your desired doneness. Cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of your steak.
-
Rest the meatTransfer the grilled steak to a cutting board and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring a moist and flavorful result.
-
Slice and serveUsing a sharp knife, slice the steak thinly against the grain. This is crucial for tender carne asada. Serve immediately with warm tortillas and garnish with diced white onion and additional fresh cilantro if desired.
